OPEN CASCADE CAD Assistant for Android is a versatile offline viewer and converter for 3D CAD and mesh models. It offers a range of features that make it a valuable tool for professionals in various industries. Whether you need to view, convert, or analyze CAD models, this app has got you covered.

The CAD Data Exchange component of Open CASCADE Technology (OCCT) provides the basic functionality of the app. It supports various file formats such as BREP, IGES, and STEP, allowing you to work with shape geometry, assembly structures, colors, names, and more. Navigating the assembly structure is made easy with the tree browser feature, and you can hide or show specific components as needed. Additionally, you can query properties of selected parts or sub-assemblies.

But that's not all. The CAD Assistant also offers powerful mesh data viewing capabilities using the mesh visualization component of OCCT. It supports popular mesh formats including glTF, STL, PLY, OBJ, and JT. With this functionality, you can view mesh models with associated data such as textures, colors, and scalar quantities. The app allows you to view the mesh in wireframe, shaded, or shrink mode and provides interactive controls for manipulating displayed quantities.

Using the app is a breeze thanks to its optimized design for devices with multi-touch screens. You can intuitively manipulate the 3D view with finger gestures, and the left toolbar provides convenient buttons for fitting the model to the screen and choosing standard views. Opening files from local storage is hassle-free and integration with Android allows for seamless file associations with compatible applications.

When it comes to saving your work, CAD Assistant supports various formats depending on your needs. You can save CAD models in STEP, IGES, or BREP format as CAD data. For polygonal data, both CAD and mesh models can be saved in PLY, STL, or OBJ format. The app also allows you to save the current image of the model in PNG format. If you want to share your work via email, simply select the target directory and the app will automatically start the mail client with the saved file as an attachment.

CAD Assistant has been tested on a wide range of modern tablets and smartphones and is designed to deliver optimal performance. However, keep in mind that it is optimized for landscape screen orientation, which may be less convenient on phones. The app requires OpenGL ES 3.0+ for smooth operation.

While CAD Assistant offers robust features, there are some limitations to consider. Opening large files may take time, especially on devices with low-range graphics processors. In these cases, the app's performance may be slower, and the system might close the application if available memory is insufficient for loading the model.
